Tesla Hints At New At-Home EV Wireless Charging Technology

Undoubtedly the biggest drawback of owning an electric vehicle is having to plug it in to charge it all the time. Now, Tesla appears to have teased that it might have a plan to deal with that annoyance — a wireless charger.

Tesla held its annual Investor Day this week and one of the slides that were shown during a presentation about charging by Rebecca Tinucci, head of global charging infrastructure suggested that there is something new on the horizon.

The slide showed the Tesla diner, a project that is already being built in California. It’s meant to be a Tesla-run diner that resembles those of a bygone era, with movies and more.

But the second half of the slide shows what appears to be a Tesla parked over a wireless charging pad. Little appears to have been said about it, but it’s clear that it appears to be some sort of wireless charging pad.

Wireless charging is already something we take for granted on phones and earbuds, but cars are a whole different thing thanks to the size of the batteries involved.

We can expect huge amounts of heat to be generated during charging, but Electrek notes that some companies are already known to be working on such technology. Could Tesla have joined in?

Everyone who ever got tired of plugging their car into the charger every time they arrive home will be hoping so.
